Unlike recent recalls for contaminated eye drops, cough drops & alcohol prep pads, your True Metrix meter is physically safe and highly accurate. This is strictly a labeling update regarding the Owner's Manual and how it explains the "E-5" error code.
What Does the E-5 Error Code Mean?
The FDA and Trividia Health determined that the original instruction manuals for these meters did not adequately explain the severity of an E-5 error. According to the manufacturer, since the global launch of the system in 2014, there have been 114 reported serious injuries and one death associated with misinterpreting this specific error code.
⚠️ The Updated E-5 Rule:
If your True Metrix meter displays an E-5 Error Code, it does not mean the machine is broken. It means you may be experiencing a very high blood glucose event (higher than 600 mg/dL) or a test strip error.
