Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
Why is it important to drink fluids while taking this medication?
Diarrhea causes your body to lose water and vital electrolytes rapidly. While loperamide stops the diarrhea, it does not rehydrate you. Drinking plenty of clear fluids or electrolyte solutions is essential to prevent dehydration.
Can I take this to prevent diarrhea before eating certain foods?
No. Anti-diarrheal medications like loperamide are designed to treat active symptoms of diarrhea. They should not be taken preventatively.
How do I cut the tablet in half for a child's dose?
The tablets are scored down the middle, allowing them to be easily snapped in half with your fingers or a pill splitter to achieve the correct 1/2 tablet dose for children.
